Life Coaching
Do you feel stuck and want to make a change, but don't know where to start? Or maybe you have just passed a milestone in your life and don't feel that you have accomplished all of the things you thought you would have by this point. Sometimes a busy life can feel more like a chore than an adventure. A Life Coach might be just what you need to get back your enthusiasm and focus on the positive. Life coaching includes consistent meetings which can help you hold yourself accountable for doing research or taking action. Your life coach can help you access resources to find the tools you need to make progress towards your goals. As an enthusiastic supporter, a life coach can help you push through the hard times and find ways to get over obstacles that come into your path. An active and objective listener can help you in expressing and framing your goals and challenges, and then matching you with resources you need to achieve your goals. A typical life coaching engagement will have the following stages:
• Introduction – This initial session will allow you to meet your life coach and determine if his/her style and personality is a fit for you. You should come prepared to discuss what prompted you to consider hiring a personal coach, and to understand what you would like to get out of the life coaching process. We will review your objectives and time frames, and discuss how quickly you need to move towards your goals. If we determine that it’s not a good match, your life coach will happily provide you with recommendations of other professionals who might better fit your needs. This is generally a 30 minute session and is free of charge.
• Discovery – If we determine based on the introductory session that your needs and your life coach's style are a good match, the next step is to move on to the discovery session(s). These are generally 45 minutes in length and allow us to explore in depth your goals and challenges. The content of these sessions varies widely depending on your goals, but may include some of the following:
- Personal Vision Statement Development
- Goal Development
- Communication Style Assessment
- Time Management Assessment
- Challenge Brainstorming
• Success Framework – Once we have delved into the details of your priorities, goals, and obstacles to success, we will work together to lay out a series of steps to achieve a specific goal. This will involve breaking the larger goal down into sub-goals, completing practical exercises in using tools such as networking, internet research, and time management skills, and laying out a series of deliverables. Your life coach will help you hold yourself accountable for accomplishing each step, as well as helping you manage adjustments and changes to your plan as the inevitable changes arrive. These sessions are generally 45 minutes in length and take place over a period of a month or more, depending on your needs.
• Follow Up – After walking through the process together, ideally you have developed the skills to take on new goals and build on your initial success. Over the next 2-12 months, we can meet either in person or by phone (generally for about 30 minutes) to work through any issues you encounter, brainstorm solutions to unexpected challenges, and collaborate to find the resources you need to move forward.
