Here are some sample scenarios where Management Coaching created tangible benefits for individuals and their employers.  Please contact us to find out how we can create a custom coaching program to help you get the best from yourself and your team.

New Management Coaching
A software development company needs to fill a position for a team leader/manager of a small group. They have a candidate who works in the development group now who is an excellent individual contributor, and who has expressed a desire to move into management; however he has no management experience. Hiring a new manager from outside of the organization will be a costly process including recruiter fees, and lost productivity during the interview and ramp-up process. Additionally the candidate may decide to leave for a better opportunity if he is passed over for the promotion, which will result in a further recruiting cost and productivity hit.

A great option for this company would be to promote the internal candidate and hire a Management Coach. During the first 2-3 months the coach can work closely with the new manager to help develop his management style, act as a sounding board for his choices and provide targeted resources and training to help him overcome any obstacles to his personal success and the success of his team. After the initial ramp up, the coach can work with the new manager on a monthly basis to follow up, continue to provide tools and resources, and keep a positive focus on his progress. The coaching package would cost a fraction of the recruiting costs for a new manager, and would allow the higher level managers in the organization to focus on their own goals and targets, thus reducing the overall cost of ramping up the new manager.

Small Business Executive Coaching
The owner of a small IT Services company is beginning to feel burned out. He is stretched thin between managing the operations and finances of his business, being the main sales person, and managing two technicians. He wants to grow the business but every time he tries to focus on how he might improve his operations or develop new products, he gets interrupted by the crisis of the day.

Engaging an Executive Coach would give this CEO the tangible benefits of an outside perspective. Working with the coach on a scheduled basis will allow him to spend focused time working ON the business rather than IN the business. Often owners and small business managers are challenged to prioritize making traction on internal goals over client requests. A scheduled meeting with a coach is a way to create accountability and raise the priority level such that the internal goals receive the attention they need.

Mentoring/Coaching for Women in Management
Susan was hired to manage a marketing group for a medium sized PR firm. While she feels confident that she has the skills and experience to be successful in her new job, she is unsure about how she will adapt her management style to her new environment. In her previous environment the management fostered and encouraged a “community workplace” culture, and strongly encouraged managers to focus on team building and mutual support. She has been told by her new department director that this is a highly competitive environment and that the team members utilize a “no bull” communication style and actively compete with one another for bonuses and promotions.

A Management Coach/Mentor can be a huge asset in allowing a manager to role play new management techniques, uncover resources and networking groups, and navigate the internal politics of management teams in larger organizations. While the manager may need to keep her “game face” on in front of her colleagues and staff, a coach can allow her to talk through areas where she feels vulnerable, and develop strategies to master those areas without looking ‘soft’. A coach can sit in on or review recordings of 1 on 1 meetings with staff members and then offer observations and alternate approaches during a debriefing session.
